Sometimes I feel like an ambassador for Las Vegas LOL…

After 3 trips to my favorite getaway this year [all within 6 months], I feel like a photographic ambassador for the City-That-Never-Sleeps.

In our 3 trips this summer and early fall, we stayed at…

  • the Mandalay Bay: fabulous rooms and amazing pool – excellent ‘no chair saving’ policy at poolside! Downside, no Starbucks close to the hotel room elevators means a walk through the casino floor or over to the convention center for morning coffee.
  • the Luxor: an older hotel ungoing a renovation, still pretty decent in the high 3-star range, but she’s showing her age. 3 Starbucks locations in the hotel and casino, with one near the elevator bank to hotel room – BIG PLUS! The pool is pretty exposed with very little shade since it’s on the west side of the Strip. Get there early to find a palm tree to lay under if you’re not a complete sun worshipper LOL!
  • the Mirage: LOVE LOVE LOVE the room, food choices and gaming floor. Pool is gorgeous, one of the best on the Strip – but unless you’re down at the pool by 9:30-10am, forget about finding a deck chair… they ALLOW saving of chairs – BOO!!!! One of the best located hotel/casinos on the Strip – next to Caesar’s, TI and across from the Venetian and Palazzo… PLUS its a quick walk to the FashionMall for primo shopping!
  • the MGM Grand WestWing: we have stayed here twice before. Love the convenience of the Starbucks near the elevator bank and quick access to the Strip. The Westwing has nice urban-loft decor, its at the ‘quiet end’ of the hotel with amenities close by. The pool at the MGM is one of the LARGEST on the Strip with a long and well-laid out lazy river water feature. Only downside… loooooooooooong walk to the pool – you have to go through the casino floor and walk through a restaurant/food/shopping area.

A number of my photographer cohorts at school have ooh’d and ah’d over the HDR images I shot in LV and I think it may be worth reposting a few of my favorites from my latest trip there. Especially since it’s freakin’ cold and Vancouver is firmly in the grip of a colder that normal winter… So here you go friends and blog stalkers alike – I give you some of my favorites from Vegas, all taken during my birthday trip in October 2010. Enjoy!

more after the jump…
