So I sucked it up [financially speaking] and bought a beautiful new and expensive lens for my camera set-up.
After selling off some lenses I no longer use on eBay, I committed to buying the lens and it has finally arrived. I’m in love. This is truly a case of you get what you pay for. Experts always say, ‘invest in your glass and treat it well – it will outlive your camera’. This is very true. Good quality, fast lenses are worth their weight in gold and ultimately, unless you go changing from Canon to Nikon, your lenses will outlive your DSLR camera body.
I had previous rented this and a few other lens for a weekend trial in order to determine which Canon L-glass I wanted as my walk around lens. I tried the 24-70mm f/2.8, 16-35mm f/2.8 and the 17-40mm f/4. My favorite by far was the 24-70mm and so that is the lens I settled on. Beautiful shots. Crisp, clear and since I use almost all natural light in my photography, a fast lens was critical and this baby 24-70mm f/2.8 fits the bill perfectly.
Since my new glass arrived today, I had to pop out for an impromptu shoot. I decided on a few wedding ring shots [using my own engagement, wedding and anniversary rings] on some beached logs along the river. I nearly dropped my engagement ring between two logs on the beach and had a minor panic attack, but I caught it and quickly learned my lesson – shoot on logs that are NOT stacked crazily on top of each other!!! Overall, the 24-70mm f/2.8 performed beautifully and I’m pretty happy with the results… what do you think?
